Belly Casting

What is a belly casting?

Belly casting is a plaster mold of a pregnant woman's belly.  Some women just do their bellies while others may do their breasts and even their hands on their bellies during the molding process.  After it is complete, the finished casting can be painted.  You can store it away, hang it up somewhere or even use it as a decorative bowl.  The choice is yours.  If you do a belly casting search, you can find some really neat examples and ideas.

How do I do a belly casting?

1.  Dress in old clothes/underwear and drape the floor for protection.

2.  Vaseline or a very greasy lotion is rubbed on anything being cast.

3.  The plaster rolls are cut into short and long strips.

4.  A warm bowl of water is needed for dipping the plaster strips.

5.  The plaster strips are then dipped into the warm water, placed on the belly and smoothed out.

6.  Several layers are added until it is thick enough.  Once it is dry, it can be removed from the mother

and she can clean off the residual plaster and lotion.

7.  Let the mold dry for a few days before painting.

8.  ENJOY YOUR PREGNANT BELLY CAST FOR YEARS TO COME!

(I personally love to hold mine up to see how big my belly was.)
